In a shocking incident in Meerut, a woman named Muskan Rastogi and her lover (with whom she was having an extramarital) Sahil Shukla stands accused of murdering her husband who was a Merchant Navy officer. The case has garnered significant attention, culminating in a dramatic scene at the courthouse where a group of lawyers attempted to assault the accused during their court appearance.

More About The Crime

Saurabh Rajput, 29 who was a resident of Brahmpuri's Indra Nagar Phase 2 was reported missing on March 4, 2025. Lastly, Rajput was employed in a London bakery and returned home on February 24. His sudden disappearance prompted an investigation, leading to the detention of his wife, Muskan Rastogi, 27, and her lover, Sahil Shukla, 25, on March 18.

According to law enforcement officials, Muskan and Sahil have been in a relationship since 2019. On March 4, Muskan allegedly laced Saurabh's food with sedatives, rendering him unconscious. Sahil then joined her, and together they fatally stabbed Saurabh. The duo proceeded to dismember his body in the bathroom using a razor and knife.

The following day, they purchased a blue plastic drum, cement, and sand, concealing the remains inside before filling it with the cement mixture. After committing the crime, they traveled to Shimla, returning on March 17.

All About the Courtroom Chaos

On March 19, as Muskan and Sahil were escorted out of the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court, a group of approximately 100 lawyers attempted to assault them. The lawyers, expressing outrage over the gruesome nature of the crime, surrounded the accused, shouting "taiyyar raho" (stay ready) and "maaro" (attack). Some managed to grab Sahil's clothes, while others tried to land blows. Police officers formed a protective ring around the duo, struggling to keep the agitated lawyers at bay. Despite the chaos, the police successfully escorted Muskan and Sahil to a waiting vehicle, ensuring their safety amidst the tumultuous scene.

What Are the Legal Proceedings?

Following the incident, the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court remanded Muskan and Sahil to 14 days of judicial custody. The investigation revealed that Muskan had allegedly manipulated Sahil into participating in the murder by creating a fake Snapchat account, posing as Sahil's deceased mother, and convincing him that his mother's spirit approved of their actions.

Public and Legal Fraternity's Reaction

The brutal nature of the crime has elicited strong reactions from both the public and the legal community. The attempt by lawyers to assault the accused underscores the intensity of emotions surrounding the case. Such incidents, however, raise concerns about maintaining decorum and upholding the rule of law within judicial premises. While the outrage is understandable, ensuring that justice is served through proper legal channels is paramount.

Conclusion

The Meerut murder case serves as a grim reminder of the depths of human depravity and the complex emotions it can stir within a community. As the legal process unfolds, it is essential for all parties to uphold the principles of justice, ensuring that the accused receives a fair trial and that any actions taken are within the bounds of the law. The incident also highlights the need for adequate security measures within court premises to prevent such confrontations in the future.
